We specialize in fine renovations, custom additions, sustainable design, and historic preservation for older homes and historic structures in the Philadelphia area.

During the past several years Hanson has worked on several of the area’s significant landmarks, including Andalusia the country estate of Nicholas Biddle, Beth Sholom Synagogue in Elkins Park designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, several houses on Boat House Row, as well as Historic Fort Mifflin, Historic Bartram’s Gardens and the Athenaeum of Philadelphia. We have also built a number of residential additions and renovated homes both in and outside the city. HGC Inc. is a three time award winner at the Greater Philadelphia Preservation Alliance Achievement Awards, and has also been awarded several AIA Philadelphia Awards. Our work has been featured in national publications including Fine Home Building and Residential Architect.

We believe that historic preservation and green building are closely linked, and that in many cases the greenest building is the one already built. We look for ways to reduce waste and create value through a combination of adaptive reuse of existing materials, and implementation of energy efficient technologies. In line with these goals, Hanson became certified for Passive House construction in 2013. We have relationships with many vendors of environmentally responsible building products, and are active members of the US Green Building Council, the Delaware Valley Building Council, and the Greater Philadelphia Preservation Alliance.
